Discover the past ~ Shape the future Project Archaeology uses archaeological inquiry to foster understanding of past and present cultures; improve social studies and science education; and enhance citizenship education to help preserve our archaeological legacy. This a nationwide project, and workshops are conducted for educators and anyone who is interested in using archaeology to teach the past.
Organized in 1875, The Kansas Historical Society is the state agency charged with actively safeguarding and sharing the state’s history to facilitate government accountability, economic development, and the education of Kansans. This is accomplished by collecting, preserving, and interpreting materials and information pertaining to state government and Kansas history. Summer field schools encourage active participation by members of the public aged 10 years and older
Founded in the 1930's the Society is based on the Missouri State University, and helps archaeologists in Missouri and bordering states connect with current projects and research. Students are encouraged to join and attend monthly meetings, and workshop during the summer teach avocational and beginning archaeologists the basics of archaeology and site recording for Missouri.
Founded in 1902, the American Anthropological Association (AAA) is the world's largest organization of individuals interested in anthropology. In the United States, archaeology is considered a subfield of anthropology, so this is an additional resource for information in addition to the Society for American Archaeology.
